The Civil War was a war between the north and south, the Union and the Confederates, in the United States of America. They were each fighting for what they thought was right. Seven southern states separated from the United States of America and formed the Confederate States of America. The Civil War was fought between 1861-1865.The Civil War had many casualties, about 620,000 men died. The Confederate states wanted slavery, while the Union states were against slavery. The south's economy depended on slaves to work on farms. Slaves were treated like property rather than human beings. The north's economy did not depend on slaves, because there were fewer farms and many more factories which did not require as much labor.
